Week 30

This Pregnant Body
You may already be experiencing some hardening and contracting of your abdomen. What you're feeling are called Braxton-Hicks contractions. These early contractions usually last about 30 seconds. Some you may not feel at all, while others may become uncomfortable for you. Want to know more?

Click here to read more about braxton hicks.

Your Baby

Your baby now weighs around 3 pounds and is about 17 inches from head to toe. An ultrasound image may show your baby yawning or even sucking its thumb, and you may also notice that your baby does not move at all during your Braxton Hicks contractions. This is because your muscles tighten and constrict his or her movement. By now your baby is probably more used to Braxton Hicks than you are.

Week 29

This Pregnant Body

Hopefully you are continuing to research your birthing options and reminding yourself that this experience is 100% yours! Putting together a birth plan is important and investigating all the different options will make creating one easier.

Bad posture, combined with sitting in an ergonomically-incorrect chair, can magnify the discomfort you may be experiencing already.

Your Baby

Your baby is now about 16.7 inches from head to toe, and weighs about 2.7 pounds. He or she continues to be active and grow; however, you may be feeling fewer kicks and punches. This is because even though your baby is getting larger and stronger, he or she also has less space in which to gain momentum for these movements.Your baby's blood is now being produced from the stem cells in its bone marrow. Many expectant parents choose to collect and freeze their baby's umbilical cord blood after delivery and the cutting of the cord. This usually-discarded blood contains stem cells, and many new parents understand the value in collecting and freezing these cells, in case the family needs them in the future. Some scientists believe that in the future we will all be treated with our own stem cells to cure conditions such as diabetes, Alzheimer's, and heart disease.

Week 28

This Pregnant Body
Starting next week, you will probably visit your OB more frequently as he or she will be keeping a closer eye on your progress. You still have another 10-12 weeks, but your baby is probably strong enough at this point to survive a premature delivery. "Preemies," as premature babies are lovingly called, are relatively rare thanks to modern obstetrical care.

If your doctor has indicated that you may deliver early, make sure to follow your doctor's instructions carefully and take it easy. Depending on your status, you may also be prescribed a fetal monitor. This electronic device, about the size of a small cassette player, will monitor your baby's heart rate and any contractions. This will help your doctor judge if it is better to continue to your expected delivery date or consider inducing labor at an earlier date. About 50% of all births occur 2 weeks earlier than the expected delivery date.

Your Baby
Your baby weighs approximately 2.4 pounds and is about 10 inches from crown to rump, or a little under 16 inches from head to toe. He or she has been gaining weight steadily during the past 27 weeks as its stem cells develop into organs, blood and immune systems, and bones. However, from this point forward, your baby's weight gain will be due to increasing amounts of body fat. A quick way to predict your baby's birth weight is to average Jeremy's and your birth weights.

Terrace 2006

Yay for holidays! I took an extra long weekend this past weekend and made my way to Terrace with Jeremy, Tiff & Dave. It was a fun (but long) trip there and the heat was barely tolerable. We arrived in Terrace about 3pm on Friday June 30th
And went to the mall for a bit with my Auntie Moe. Once we were done that, we made our way back to her house for dinner where we joined my cousin Ruth & her husband Mark, as well as my Uncle Mike and my soon to be cousin in law Ryan. It was so awesome to see them all. = )

On Saturday (July 1st) we decided to head to the mall again for a little while waiting for Auntie Moe to finish some work she had to do. From there we went to the farmers market & had some yummy phillipino food. The weather was so warm that from there we went out to the lake, where it was totally gorgeous. Ruth took some pregnant photos of me, which I’ll post once I see them. Saturday night we went out for dinner at Mr. Mikes for Chris’s Birthday, yummy food and crazy people = good times.

Sunday we went to church and had some good God time. Uncle Mike (who is also the pastor) shared a good word on how men need to make their way to manhood. From there we went to Boston Pizza (once again eating) and a big group ended up coming. We took all sorts of interesting pictures to amuse ourselves while we waited for our food. The one picture Ruth took made me laugh so hard I nearly peed myself, I was literally crying from laughing so hard, everyone was looking at me like I had lost my mind.

Later that afternoon we went out to another beach and sat in the water for a few hours trying to stay cool. It was very relaxing and fun too. That night we went back to Auntie Moe’s for a homemade Tai meal. It was really fancy and very tasty too. She had the table done up all fancy for us as well. Auntie Moe is the bomb!

Monday we did a bit of shopping downtown in the few shops that were open and then went to Denny’s for lunch, packed up and said our goodbyes. Time flies when you’re having fun, but hopefully we get to do it again sometime soon.
Well, I’m out now, and for those of you who know what I’m talking about….Ice Cold Lemonade anyone? It’s ice cold….

w00t! All Caught up - Week 27

This Pregnant Body
As you mark the days of your third trimester off the calendar, your body will continue to change and grow. You will gain weight more rapidly than in your first or second trimester, and your breasts will increase in size and weight - up to four times larger and heavier. By the time you deliver, your total weight gain will probably be between 25 and 35 pounds if you are carrying a single baby, 40 and 50 pounds with twins, 50 and 60 pounds with triplets, and between 65 and 80 pounds with quadruplets. Your baby needs you to gain this weight so it has plenty of nutrition to develop and grow. If you skip a meal, so does your little one. Keep in mind that your weight gain is not just the baby; about 75 percent of your new weight is due to increased bodily fluids (such as blood), the placenta, and the increased size and weight of your breasts.
Sex may be the at the bottom of your top 1000 things to do right now, but if the mood should hit sex is still on the "okay-to-do" list for you, with your doctor's approval. In an uncomplicated pregnancy, a mom-to-be can continue to have sex to the degree her changing body and the couple's creativity permits. Bleeding or contractions following intercourse may be serious signs of pre-term labor. If you have had problems with pre-term labor before, your doctor will most likely tell you to put a hold on your sex life until after your baby is born.

Your Baby
Your baby weighs approximately 2 pounds and measures about 9.6 inches from crown to rump. His or her facial features are almost fully developed and synchronizing enough that he or she may make faces that are visible on an ultrasound. Your babys skin is becoming thicker and fleshier and increasingly wrinkled, thanks to the amniotic fluid. The skin will remain wrinkled for the first month or so after birth just think about how your hands or feet look after you have been in the water for just 30 minutes! During this week, the brain continues its rapid growth, and the lungs continue to develop.

Fast Track Catch Up - Week 26

This Pregnant Body
You may begin experiencing an increased level of discomfort soon. Gas pains, bloating, water retention (edema), and an overall hard time getting comfortable are very common complaints.

Try various positions for sitting, sleeping, and carrying items to determine what is best for you. Most back pain is caused by the stretching of your ligaments. Some women experience sciatica, which is a sharp pain in their lower back that sometimes moves down their legs. This is usually not bothersome in the morning, but later in the day, depending on your level of activity, the pain can increase.

You can also try to do some gentle stretching to provide relief. If your pain becomes significant, your doctor may prescribe physical therapy to help relieve your discomfort. Keep stretching and be conscious of how you lift, sit, and sleep.

Your Baby
Your baby weighs almost 2 pounds; measures around 9.2 inches from crown to rump; and hears noises, responds to light, and is generally more aware of its surroundings. In the same way that you can see a flashlight if you hold it against your palm, your baby can see the light coming through your belly. You may notice increased activity when in brighter light and decreased activity in darkened rooms. Its hearing is fully developed, and as he or she reacts to sounds, its pulse increases. Your baby will even move in rhythm to music!

As you near the end of your second trimester, there are a lot of choices about the birth of your baby that you need to begin considering, if you haven't already. Now is a great time to make sure your birth plan is finalized. There are many birth options available and all of them are worth learning about and considering.

Your Baby
Your baby weighs about 1.5 pounds and measures 8.8 inches from crown to rump. He or she is becoming stronger as its stem cells continue to develop into bone tissue, and its bones become solid through a process called ossification.

Fast Track Catch Up - Week 22

This Pregnant Body
Only a few more weeks and you'll be in the home stretch: your third trimester! In the last few weeks of your second trimester, you are probably feeling a little tired, a little hungry, and a little uncomfortable much of the time. I can only tell you that the joy that your newborn brings will make all of these hurdles of pregnancy seem inconsequential. (You really have to trust me on this one!)If you are having a tough time thinking of what to have for dinner, here are some delicious and nutritious recipes that are so easy to prepare, Jeremy may even make them (hint, hint).

Your Baby
Your baby weighs about 11 ounces, measures about 7.6 inches from head to rump, and is growing eyelashes and eyebrows. These two latest developments will be a key method of communicating his or her happiness, frustration, confusion, or interest until he or she can talk.

Fast Track Catch Up - Week 20

You're halfway there! Take your pregnancy as it comes and know that you're just about midway to the birth of your baby.

This Pregnant Body
Walking is a safe and effective form of exercise for most women during pregnancy, so walk as much as possible, and make sure to breathe deeply and rest when you need to. Your growing baby is causing your internal organs to press against your lungs, which can make breathing more difficult or sometimes make you feel you are out of breath. So while you are exercising or even running errands, pay attention to what your body tells you and slow down if you feel out of breath. The midway point is when many women develop anemia, so make sure you get enough iron, and take supplements if necessary.

Your Baby
Your baby is now about 5.6 to 6.4 inches and weighs approximately 9 ounces. Your baby is now big enough that you may be able to tell when he or she is awake or asleep based on the level of activity. You can also see a lot of movement in the ultrasound image. Looking at ultrasound images of other babies can help you figure out what you're looking at when you see your baby's image.

Fast Track Catch Up -Week 19

This Pregnant Body
Have you noticed your bellybutton changing? One thing you will notice, if you haven't already, is where you once had an "inee" you now have an "outee"! Your expanding uterus is pressing against your bellybutton and makes it stick out. If you have had an "inee" all your life, seeing your new "outee" will no doubt have you contemplating your navel. One of the most valuable resources for your birthing experience is a childbirth preparation class. Don't be afraid to ask a prospective childbirth instructor lots of questions when researching which class is right for you. Attending a childbirth class will help you feel more comfortable and in control throughout labor and delivery.

You may become more and more sensitive to smells, and the bad ones can overwhelm you every now and again. Stay on very friendly terms with your refrigerator, so it doesn't offend you with long-forgotten leftovers, turned science projects.

Your Baby
Your baby weighs approximately 7 ounces and is about 5.2 to 6 inches from crown to rump. The exterior layers of skin tissue are developing to form your baby's one-of-a-kind fingerprints. The amniotic fluid that surrounds your baby allows for the free movement of the arms and legs and is also sometimes swallowed to practice digestion.

Fast Track Catch Up -Week 18

This Pregnant Body
Sufficient rest is one of the most important components of a healthy pregnancy. Pregnancy-related insomnia may start to affect your daily routine, but there are things you can do to help. Make sure you always go to the bathroom before you go to bed so you won't be awakened in the middle of the night. Try using pillows in different places under your chest, abdomen or between your knees. Find an arrangement that is most comfortable for you. Take a warm bath or read before bed to relax you further.

Your Baby
Your baby weighs about 5.25 ounces and is 5-1/2 inches long from crown to rump, or about the size of a large pickle. Your baby's digestive system is starting to produce meconium, its first fecal matter. Some new moms are scared at the sight of it in their newborns diapers and think something must be wrong with their baby, but its perfectly normal and will only last a few days after birth.

Fast Track Catch Up -Week 17

This Pregnant Body
You may notice that you are beginning to have a runny nose more frequently, and feel like you are sweating more than usual. These are all normal at this stage of pregnancy. Remember, since your heart is working harder to pump more blood through your system, your body responds by producing more fluids. All of these fluids should return to normal levels within a few months after you deliver. You will have to start wearing comfortable, non-restrictive clothing soon, if you haven't already. We are luckier than our mothers, because today's maternity clothes and undergarments have much more style and functionality.

Your Baby
Your baby is approximately 4.8 inches long and weighs about 3.5 ounces, and he or she should weigh more than the placenta from this point on. Since your baby's hearing has become more finely tuned, he or she may respond to loud noises and you may feel movement at the sound of large trucks passing or a slamming door. Epidermal (skin) and fatty tissue are developing all over your baby's body to protect it after it is born and a substance called vernix is beginning to form on the skin tissue to protect it from the long exposure to amniotic fluid.

Fast Track Catch Up -Week 16

Week 16

This Pregnant Body
One of the most memorable and exciting moments of your pregnancy is coming soon. This is about the time you may feel your baby move for the first time, also called quickening. If this is your first pregnancy, you may not notice quickening for another couple of weeks, but it is very common to become aware of these fetal movements at any time up to 24 weeks. In general, thinner moms-to-be will feel quickening earlier than heavier moms-to-be. Your doctor will inquire about these movements from time to time; the week you feel quickening will help your doctor pinpoint your exact due date.

Your Baby
Your baby now weighs about 2.8 ounces, and measures about 4.3 to 4.6 inches long. You may have an ultrasound scheduled soon which may tell you, if you want to know, whether it is a boy or a girl. Your baby's fingernails and toenails are now fully formed, and internally your baby's urinary tract and bladder are functioning, emptying about once every hour.

Preggers

Well as many of you know, most likely all of you by now... o.O
I'm pregnant and due October 8th. It's been a warm summer already and it's only getting warmer with my little internal heater.

I found out I was pregnant on February 3rd, which was very exciting as I had being trying to get pregnant for about 2 years. I could hardly believe it when it happened. When I went to my first Doctor appointment I was just waiting for them to say it was a false alarm, however, they didn't.
